Something for everyone

There's a surprising amount to do locally for such a remote wee place. There are wildlife tours, a (newly extended) museum of ancient culture, standing stones, hill forts, distilleries and great places to eat and drink a short walk or drive away.

The Galley of Lorne Inn and Lucy’s (delicious!) Café are a ten-minute walk down the track in the village.  A few more minutes and you can reach the very well-stocked Ardfern Village Store and the Ardfern Yacht Centre, from which wildlife trips depart daily in the summer to the Corrievreckan whirlpool (one of the biggest in the world) and the Isle of Jura.

You can drive fifteen minutes (an hour’s gentle walk) to Lunga Stables for horse riding or the Lord of the Isles pub at Craobh Haven, or twenty minutes to Kilmartin Museum, the standing stones and Dunadd fort, where the first kings of Scotland were crowned.

Crinan, Kilmartin, Kilmichael, Kilmelfort are all 20 or 30 minutes away with more great places to eat. Oban, 40 minutes north, has a great distillery that gives tours, loads of supermarkets, and is where the ferries leave for the magical Hebrides - Colonsay, Mull, Iona, Tiree, Coll and Barra.
